Jane Reynolds with Mark Bedinger, CHCA chairman of the board

On Sept. 17, 2015, the Colorado Health Care Association presented two awards to associates from Briarwood Health Care Center in Denver.

The ceremony took place during CHCA’s annual Fall Convention in Denver. Dorothy Walker, a certified nursing assistant, won one of two CNA Awards, and Jane Reynolds, activity director, won one of two Activities Awards.

Dorothy Walker – CNA Award

Walker has worked at Briarwood Health Care Center since 2004 and is currently on the night shift.

“If there are struggles and trying times in her life, one would never know,” said Amy Wells, director of nursing at Briarwood. “She has brought many smiles, comfort and love to her many residents over the years, and she truly personifies the meaning of caring from the heart.”

Wells commended Walker for comforting residents when they feel lonely or sad, and for staying with them as a loving friend when they pass away.

Jane Reynolds – Activities Award

Reynolds and her team of activities associates at Briarwood work hard to incorporate a wide variety of activities, from outings like shopping trips and church services that help residents remain connected to the community to relaxation and cultural programs.

“She makes our lives an adventure,” said one of the residents. “At a time when many of us have lost so much, we can always look forward to what new experience this activity director has in store for us. She always tries new things, looks for new ways to do old things and generates enthusiasm in all of us as well.”

Besides planning activities, Reynolds coordinates the volunteer program at Briarwood and includes all sorts of individuals and groups – from musicians to developmentally delayed children to beauty school students.

Residents and associates also nominated Reynolds for her personal touch.

“She always has time for each and every one of us and knows us very well,” said a resident. “She stops to hold our hand, gives us hugs and pats on the back. She always has a word of thanks and encouragement. She is a light to us and treats us like we are all special, and we know we all have a place in her heart.”
